Betsson to Appeal Swedish Fine

Operator believes penalty from Swedish Regulator not warranted and confirm intent to appeal

The  subsidiary of iGaming operator Betsson, Betsson Nordic Limited who were subjected to a warning against  further conduct and a financial penalty of 20m SEK by the Swedish regulator Spelinspektionen, have confirmed their surprise at being on the receiving end of such action and their intention to appeal.

Betsson Group who recently acquired the B2C properties owned by GiG, including brands such as Thrills and Rizk online casinos, issued a media statement late yesterday, confirming their intention to appeal the ‘hefty fine’ levelled against them.

With the release to the media stating: “The decision will be appealed on both accounts since Betsson AB does not agree with the view that Betsson Nordic Ltd has not complied with the Swedish Gambling Act.”

“Betsson AB is of the view that the vouchers have been offered in line with the applicable law and that Betsson Nordic Ltd has not offered any commercial incentives or benefits connected to the Betsson Mastercard.”
