Swedish Regulator Spelinspektionen to Meet with Operators

The Swedish gambling regulator, Spelinspektionen, has invited its licensees to meet with them to discuss regulatory issues and to clarify any concerns that operators may have.

Over the past few months, Spelinspektionen have taken a hard line stance against any of their licensees who have fallen foul of their strict regulations and conditions that they are expected to adhere to. This has resulted in several operators being on the receiving end of large financial penalties and fines as a result.

Furthermore this has seen the sportsbook operations of Guts and Rizk in Sweden being temporarily suspended by their owners Gaming Innovation Group, until such time Spelinspektionen provide them with further clarity concerning the gaming regulations moving forward.

As a result, all operators licensed to operate online gambling sites in Sweden have been invited to meet with the regulator on the 17th September, next month.

With a spokesperson for Spelinspektionen commenting: “The purpose of the meeting is to increase the understanding between market players and the authorities.”

Joining them at the meeting will be representatives from the Swedish Tax Agency, Financial Police and the Swedish Consumer Agency.
